Sea turtle nests in historic first on Southern California coast

Officials reported the first recorded natural nesting of olive ridley sea turtles on the West Coast, specifically along the Southern California coastline. Two historic nests were discovered, marking an unprecedented event for the threatened species. The Aquarium of the Pacific stated that this discovery could help the species thrive. Wildlife experts remain hopeful that the resulting hatchlings will eventually return to these same beaches to lay their own eggs, beginning a new chapter for the population.
