Oscars: Denmark Selects May El-Toukhy’s ‘Woman Unknown’ For International Feature Film Race

Denmark has selected May el-Toukhy’s Woman Unknown as its official entry for the Best International Feature Film category at the 99th Academy Awards. The psychological drama, set in post-World War II Denmark, stars Mathilde Arcel as a nanny marrying her wealthy employer. The film previously won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival, where a jury presided over by Maggie Gyllenhaall awarded the prize. May el-Toukhy was the only female director in competition at the festival.
