New York offers college admission for residents unenrolled from Howard University

Governor Kathy Hochul announced that New York residents unenrolled from Howard University can seek admission at CUNY and SUNY for the fall 2026 semester. This follows the historically Black institution withdrawing over 500 first-year students in late July due to missed tuition payments. Affected students will receive expedited late admissions reviews at several SUNY campuses, including Buffalo, Albany, Buffalo State University, Binghamton, and Oneonta, providing a critical academic reprieve for those displaced from their original college.
