Indonesia’s Anak Krakatau

On September 5, 2026, the OLI on Landsat 8 captured images of Anak Krakatau erupting ash and volcanic gases. Located between the Indonesian islands of Java and Sumatra, this small volcano experiences regular eruptions. While much of its volcanic activity is typically characterized as relatively mild, the volcano occasionally exhibits more intense behavior. The recent imagery provides a clear view of the emissions released during this specific event at the active site.
