Google’s new Googlebook OS is basically Android for laptops

Google has officially launched Googlebooks and the accompanying Googlebook OS, previously rumored as Aluminium OS. This new operating system, based on Android 16 and Android 17, combines elements of Android and ChromeOS to target Android users. Launching October 4 starting at $899 across five manufacturers, Googlebook integrates Android phone functionality and Gemini AI tools. The company promises up to 10 years of updates, aiming to rebuild the PC experience around the Android ecosystem.
