FSF 'LibreLocal' Organized From Prison by a Man Jailed for 'Cyber-Crimes' After Promoting Free Software

The Free Software Foundation detailed 47 LibreLocal 2026 meetups, specifically highlighting events in Australia, Mexico, United States, New Zealand, Cameroon, Switzerland, Spain, Argentina, China, and Iran. These in-person gatherings aimed to facilitate idea exchange and celebrate free software. Notably, one event was organized from prison by an Iranian man jailed for cyber-crimes after promoting free software. This year's participation grew significantly from the 29 meetups hosted during the previous global call for community organization.
