Dust and Water in Sagittarius A*

An international team of astronomers utilized the James Webb Space Telescope to discover that water and dust can form and survive unexpectedly close to Sagittarius A*, the supermassive black hole at the Milky Way center. Mid-infrared data from an image captured on August 11, 2026, focused on IRS 3, a star nearing the end of its life cycle. This observation revealed clear signatures of oxygen-rich silicate dust within the surrounding starfield near the galactic core.
