Discord launches controversial age-verification system "using the most privacy-preserving approach we could build" months after first delay

Discord has launched an updated age-verification system following previous delays caused by significant user backlash. Co-founder Stanislav Vishnevskiy states the new approach is more privacy-preserving and less invasive. The platform now utilizes credit card verification, Apple Store, Google Play Store, Google Wallet, and AgeKey to categorize users into 13-17 and 18+ age groups. These methods ensure users only access age-appropriate content globally, replacing the previously rejected ID requirements with more flexible, third-party reusable credentials.
