Bernie Sanders proposes banning ‘superintelligence’ and putting violators in prison

Sen. Bernie Sanders and Rep. Greg Casar introduced the Ban Artificial Superintelligence Act to prohibit the development of artificial superintelligence. The legislation describes this technology as capable of the disempowerment or destruction of humanity, including the potential to overthrow the government. Violators could face up to 20 years in prison. Additionally, the proposed legislation seeks to establish a new federal Department of AI to provide oversight and regulation for advanced AI technologies across the United States.
