AWS Is Retiring App Mesh. Here Is How We Moved 40 Services

AWS is retiring App Mesh, with end of support scheduled for September 2026. To migrate 40 services, a team conducted a formal evaluation using a decision record, weighted criteria, and a proof of concept. Istio Ambient Mesh was selected as the replacement tool. The migration process involved creating a detailed, team-reviewed plan before implementing any changes in the clusters, ensuring a structured transition from the retiring AWS service to the new mesh architecture.
