Amazon’s trying to launch a global satellite cellphone network in 2028

Amazon filed an FCC application to launch a LEO satellite constellation of 5,105 satellites by 2028. This network will provide direct-to-device voice, messaging, data, and emergency services. Amazon plans to partner with mobile network operators and utilize Globalstar spectrum to enhance iPhone satellite features. Through a deal with Apple, Globalstar will operate alongside Amazon Leo to power future satellite services, as Amazon is currently in the process of acquiring the Globalstar company.
